LPGA Returning to Mobile in 2012
The LPGA and Mobile, Alabama, have a long history and in 2012 these top athletes on tour will be back.
The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic is scheduled for April 23 – 29, 2012 on the Crossings Course at Magnolia Grove in Mobile. The tournament will be sponsored by 55 Water, the largest commercial office building in New York City. The building is owned by the Retirement Systems of Alabama and houses tenants from around the world. “This sponsorship gives us a great opportunity to market 55 Water nationally and internationally,” said Dr. David G. Bronner, CEO of the Retirement Systems of Alabama. “This LPGA event offers a unique opportunity to reach international prospects and should be very beneficial to 55 Water,” said Dr. Bronner. “Audiences in China and other key markets are fascinated with golf. While watching four days of world-class golf, international viewers will see ads highlighting 55 Water as a great location for large office space in New York. This is by far the cheapest and best method for such international exposure,” said Dr. Bronner. “More than half of the LPGA viewership on the Golf Channel is international business leaders,” said Dr. Bronner. “This media exposure will make business leaders aware of 55 Water even before they have their staff look for property in New York. The overall message will be when looking for office space in New York, think 55 Water.” At 54 stories and 3.8 million square feet, 55 Water Street is the second largest privately owned office building in the country and is situated on 3.7 acres. It boasts multiple open spaces that enhance the quality of life in Lower Manhattan. New York City’s Vietnam Veterans Plaza is located at 55 Water. This outdoor plaza includes Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Walk of Honor and history panels in memory of Vietnam veterans. Consequently, Hope for the Warriors will be the charity of choice for the LPGA tournament. Hope For The Warriors is a national, nonprofit organization that supports wounded U.S. service members, their families, and families of the fallen. In 2011, the Avnet LPGA Classic in Mobile was won by Sweden’s Maria Hjorth. This was her second LPGA victory on the RTJ Golf Trail. She won the inaugural Navistar LPGA Classic on the Senator Course in Prattville in 2007. This was her fifth-career LPGA Tour victory. For more information on the sponsor visit 55water.com.
